Grace Presbyterian USA
Grace Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) with our General Assembly offices located in Louisville, Kentucky. Our regional governing body is the Presbytery of Sheppards & Lapsley with its office in Hoover.
The History of Grace
Grace Presbyterian Church came into being with the merger of three separate Presbyterian churches -- Huffman Presbyterian, East Lake Presbyterian, and Mount Pinson Presbyterian – in 1999. Membership in all three churches was either stagnant or in decline. The vision of the Sessions of each of the churches was to come together, bringing the individuality of each church and blending it with the other two to form a vibrant, visionary environment for growth. The unification of the three churches into one was accomplished by allowing each church to have a voice in forming and governing the blended church. Representation from all three Sessions was included in the newly formed governing body in order to honor the election of the elders that were currently serving in each church. The churches shared a vision for missions, which continue today. Eastern Area Christian Ministries receives a substantial portion of its funding from Grace. Other ministries supported include Children’s Hospital, First Light Women’s Shelter, Birmingham AIDS Outreach, and the Firehouse Men’s Shelter, along with denominational support of worldwide missions through the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Through determined leadership and the guidance of the Holy Spirit- Grace Presbyterian is truly now a family, with the wonderful energy that comes from this exciting vision of ministry to which God has called us!
